After a full day exploring Sultanahmet, Gülhane and Eminönü, the historic peninsula changes pace once you get hungry in the evening: the museums close and many kitchens on the tourist streets switch off their lights early. This guide covers where to get something hot late at night on the historic peninsula, how to get from Sultanahmet to Sirkeci and the practical things worth knowing.
Where can you eat late at night near Sultanahmet?
Smash House's second branch is in Sirkeci: Hoca Paşa Mahallesi, Muradiye Caddesi No:4, Fatih. It is right behind Sirkeci Station, two minutes from the Marmaray and tram stops and about a ten-minute walk from Sultanahmet Square. The branch is open every day from 11:00 until 03:00 and uses the same menu, the same beef and the same house-made sauces as our first branch in Nişantaşı.
The branch opened in September 2026; address, hours and directions are on our Sirkeci branch page.
Why is it hard to find food late on the historic peninsula?
Sultanahmet and the area around it fill up with visitors by day, but many businesses close early in the evening. The area around Sirkeci Station is a bit of an exception: with trains, Marmaray and the tram, the nearby Eminönü piers and the hotels around it, it stays busy at night too. So if you want something hot late at night on the historic peninsula, Sirkeci is a good direction.
How do you get from Sultanahmet to Sirkeci?
Sirkeci is one of the transport hubs of the historic peninsula, easy to reach wherever you are coming from:
| From | How | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Sultanahmet Square | Walk along Alemdar Caddesi | About 10 minutes |
| Gülhane Park gate | Walk | A few minutes |
| Sultanahmet tram stop | T1 Kabataş–Bağcılar to Sirkeci | 2 minutes from the stop |
| Marmaray | Sirkeci station, towards Hoca Paşa | 2-minute walk |
| Kadıköy / Üsküdar (ferry) | Walk from the Eminönü pier | 5–10 minutes |
What can you eat late at night in Sirkeci?
If you want something quick, filling and hot late at night, a smash burger is a good choice: the patty is smashed on the griddle when you order and is ready in a few minutes. The burger with the "customer favourite" badge on our menu:
In Sirkeci, the Detroit Mushroom comes with creamy mushrooms and bonnetio sauce, the Mexican Hot is for anyone who likes heat, and the Smash Taco is for trying something different. On the side there are several kinds of fries, onion rings and mozzarella sticks. Every item is on our menu page.
Which burger suits whom?
After walking all day, appetites are big. A quick guide to the menu:
| What you want | Pick | What's in it |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | Cheese Classic Burger | Double patty, cheddar, pickles, finely chopped onion; brioche bun |
| Very hungry | Big Boss | 210 g beef, caramelised onions, truffle aioli, cheddar |
| Mushrooms | Detroit Mushroom | Creamy mushrooms, crispy onions, bonnetio sauce |
| Something different | Smash Taco | Spiced smashed beef in a taco shell |
| Chicken instead of beef | Crispy Chicken | Double-coated chicken fillet with coleslaw |
| For kids | Kids Smash | Smaller portion, milder flavours |
Is it good for lunch too?
Yes. The Sirkeci branch opens at 11:00, and because the patty is smashed to order and ready in a few minutes, it works for a quick break in the middle of a sightseeing day. The same goes for anyone working in the historic hans and offices of Eminönü. If your plans include Topkapı Palace, Gülhane Park or the Spice Bazaar, Sirkeci sits right between them.
Good to know for visitors
A few practical points for anyone staying in Sultanahmet and Eminönü:
For guests who speak English or Arabic
Many visitors staying on the historic peninsula don't speak Turkish, and a Turkish-only menu makes ordering harder. That is why the Smash House menu comes in Turkish, English and Arabic, and all the meat we use is halal. The English and Arabic versions of our website also have branch details and frequently asked questions.
A short evening walk
After an evening in Sultanahmet, walking down to Sirkeci turns the night itself into a route:
- Sultanahmet Square: a short loop around the square in the evening lights.
- Alemdar Caddesi: follow the tram tracks downhill.
- Gülhane Park gate: pass in front of the park entrance.
- Sirkeci: Muradiye Caddesi, behind the station, about ten minutes in total.
Can you get delivery to your hotel?
Yes. The Sirkeci branch is listed on Yemeksepeti, Getir Yemek and Trendyol Yemek, delivering to Eminönü, Cağaloğlu, Sultanahmet, Gülhane and the surrounding area within each app's delivery area. To order by phone, call 0850 255 15 31.
In short
If you want something hot late at night on the historic peninsula, there is a smash burger kitchen right behind Sirkeci Station, open until 03:00.
